This is how I feel today ...

It is freezing here again, but supposed to be warmer this weekend.

February is Pet Dental Health Month!

During National Pet Dental Health Month, pet owners are reminded of the dangers of poor pet dental care. Because dogs and cats can't brush their own teeth, it's up to their owners to ensure their beloved pets get the oral care they need.
Trouble begins when food particles and bacteria build up in the mouth form plaque and tartar, which leads to gingivitis and severe periodontal disease. Periodontal disease leads to tooth decay, bad breath, bleeding gums, and, in severe cases, tooth loss. Even more complications arise when the bacteria that cause periodontal disease travel into a pet's bloodstream, possibly resulting in damage to the heart, liver, kidneys and lungs.

The American Veterinary Dental Society estimates that 80 percent of dogs and 70 percent of cats show signs of oral disease by age three.

There are a number of symptoms to look for to determine if your animal is suffering with dental disease:

  • •Bad breath-it's not unusual for a dog to have breath that's unpleasant, but if it becomes putrid, this is a strong sign of dental disease.
•Tartar build up-just like in people, a dog or cat's teeth should be white and free of tartar.
    •Swollen, receding, or bleeding gums.
•Fractured teeth-bad oral hygiene can lead to cavities, which can be very painful.
•Change in eating habits-sometimes an animal's dental disease can become so uncomfortable that petswill avoid certain foods.

Prevention is the best cure for dental disease in animals, and that includes annual visits to your veterinarian to have your pet's teeth examined. Dogs and cats should also have their teeth brushed on a regular basis, and special foods, along with dental chews, rawhide, dental bones and other healthy products that pets consider "treats," can help keep teeth white and free of disease.

In order to train your dog or cat to tolerate regular tooth brushing, start by massaging the animal'sgums with an appropriate pet tooth paste. Poultry-flavored toothpaste is very popular, and most animalslove the taste. Toothpaste made for humans can make a pet sick. Once the animal starts acceptingor even looking forward to this new ritual, introduce a toothbrush and clean the exterior of the animal's teeth.

If your pet already has signs of periodontal disease, a professional cleaning is in order. Talk to your veterinarian for more information on a dental health treatment and program for your pet.

What can I get into now ?

.
Milakoshka is the sweetest kitten, but at 6 months old, she still has a lot of kitten energy !! This morning the sun is out, and was reflecting off of some shiny objects. There were lots of sun spots on the ceiling and walls. Mila sees these spots, and cries, because she is trying to figure out how she can get to them. She was going crazy trying to get the sun spots. I finally had to close the living room curtains.

D' uh ..... A Helpful Household Tidbit !

Don't you act like you already knew this - LOL

I had to go into the kitchen and check this out for myself. Who looks at the end of your aluminum foil box?

You know when you try to pull some foil out and the whole roll comes out of the box. Then you have to put the roll back in the box and start over. The darn roll always comes out at the wrong time and almost every time you use it.

.
Well, I would like to share this with you.
Yesterday, I (NOT ME) went to throw out an empty Reynolds foil box and for some reason I turned it and looked at the end of the box.
And written on the end it said, Press here to lock end.

.
Right there on the end of the box is a tab to lock the roll in place.
How long has this little locking tab been there? I then looked at a generic brand of aluminum foil and it had one, too.
.
I then looked at a box of Saran wrap and it had them too! I can't count the number of times the Saran wrap roll has jumped out when I was trying to cover something up.
I'm sharing this with my friends.

.
I hope I'm not the only person that didn't know about this?
.
.
.
I got this e-mail from a friend... It was not me who discovered the cool little
notches on the sides of tin foil boxs... I am not that smart.
.
But I did go look at my tin foil box tonight, and sure enough the locking tabs were there...
D'uh, is just not a strong enough word to express how dumb I feel right now !
Please let me know I am not the dumbest person on the planet...

Sad Day Today

One year ago today, my 20 + year old cat Smokey had a vet appointment at 4:30. She had not been feeling well for about 3 weeks before. She was not eating, and it was hard for her to walk.

We went to the vet & she told us Smokey's organs were shutting down, the best thing we could do for her is put her out of her pain...

We did. It was so hard to let go after 20 years of companionship. I still miss her everyday. I am crying as I write this. Smokey knew when I was sad, she knew if I didn't feel well. She would come lay on me when I was sick. She was my only child for 20 years, it was so hard to say goodbye...
I love you Mokey !
